19th century greek / roman style grand tour bronze. The head has grape leaves and vines which are indicative of Bacchus, faun, satyr , or pan. However it is missing horns and difficult to identify precisely. It is an elegant piece and would look great in a box frame.
Originally acquired by Robert Starkey microbiologist who traveled the world. A large portion of the items from his estate were donated to the Smithsonian. This particular item was left in a drawer forgotten most likely acquired from one of his travels in Europe during the 1930s.
